Finding Refuge in Christ: Why Orlando?

Psalm 91:1–2 says, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, 'My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'"

Orlando is a city on the move. With nearly 74 million visitors each year and over 4.3 million residents, it’s a global city with a growing population. Each week, 1,500 new people call Orlando home, and by 2030, the city’s population is expected to exceed 5.3 million. Over 50% of new residents are international, making Orlando one of the most diverse cities in the U.S.

But despite its vibrancy, Orlando faces a significant spiritual need. The city is the 6th most dechurched in the country, with 51% of people not attending church at all in the last year. Even more striking, 89% of those who have left the church have made a personal commitment to Jesus and still hold to orthodox beliefs. These are people who, for various reasons, no longer find refuge in the church.

A Refuge for the Hurting and Weary

At Refuge Church, we believe that true refuge is found in Jesus Christ alone. In a city that offers many distractions and temporary comforts, we exist to point people to the one true source of safety and peace—Christ. Our mission is simple: to be a place where people can find refuge, healing, and hope.

We are committed to sharing the Gospel with Orlando’s growing and diverse population. We aim to be a community where everyone can experience the love of Christ and find a safe space to grow in their faith. Whether you’re new to the faith or have walked with Jesus for years, there’s a place for you here.
